A good way to save some time on humanoid characters in Blender is to use the Meta-rig that comes with the Rigify add-on. A good practice when modelling humanoid characters is to make sure the character is modelled in a T-Pose, i.e. Rigging in Blenderįirst off, we will set up a simple rigged character in Blender.

If you already have a rigged character or want to use one from Mixamo you can skip the first part about Rigging in Blender and Exporting from Blender and go directly to Importing Character to Unity. You can see both Adobe Blender addons in action with a quick usage tutorial in the video below. This blogpost will hopefully provide some insight into how you can easily rig a character in Blender, import it to Unity and add Humanoid animations from Mixamo to use with the Mecanim system. This add-on requires a seperate download that runs outside of Blender, which can be downloaded directly from within the Add-ons section once the initial Substance plugin is installed. This add-on for Blender allows you to load a Substance 3D material directly into Blender and apply modifications by tweaking parameters. This add-on requires an Adobe account to download, and enables you to use Substance Designer sbsar files in Blender. This add-on can be downloaded here (direct Zip download link). The add-on provides a one-click solution to create an IK control rig and to bake animations in and out of the character control rig and skeleton. This Blender auto control-rig add-on works with characters that have been auto-rigged with the Mixamo service.

This add-on makes it easy to download Mixamo rigged characters, either from or your own uploaded then auto-rigged character, then import them into Blender and automatically create a game engine friendly animation Rig. Back in July, Adobe signaled their support of Blender by joining the Blender development fund as a Gold sponsor, then followed it up by releasing two addons for Blender, one for Mixamo and the other for Substance Designer.
